Point taken, though I think we might be getting into splitting hair territory. Do you have a link for that Center for Journalism quote? I’d love to blog about it.

A reply on a podcast is not “episodic” by definition therefore not a true “podcast” but rather a “response video”.Therefore, I would rather consider podcasting as a tool for social media. ( not that all these make any significant difference in practice , only theoretically)

  6. bijhua says:

“Center for Journalism and Communication Research at the University of Texas at Austin in the USA proposed a four-part definition of a podcast: A podcast is a digital audio or video file that is episodic; downloadable; programme-driven, mainly with a host and/or theme; and convenient, usually via an automated feed with computer software”. One of the key words in the all definitions for podcasting is “episodically”.

  7. kwixson says:

Podcasting usually comes with RSS, which usually means a comments section somewhere. Go back to the site where the podcast is posted and you’re likely to have a venue for return channel communication. I commented on a space podcast once and the following podcast spent 20 minutes answering my comment. Also, to the point of this video, you record your podcast, then I record my podcast in response – we both can ’cause it’s so cheap and easy – we’re communicating back and forth.

    Simple yet effective.

  9. i think the phenomenon is not called social media but social media publishing / social publishing…

the big ice cream company is representing the big publishing companies who r struggling to survive because they havent heard the buzz…

  10. jjccccc says:

ok my icecream company comes round my house smashes up my board out side my house then sends in 2 goons who break my legs . so i tried youtube instead i got loads of ratings to begin with then youtube found out i was getting to popular so they restricted my hit count down to zilch, free market econmy means didlee squat when it comes to big business

  11. beautifully done! great animation

  12. bijhua says:

fantastic video! it’s clear that a lot of hours went into the making of it :) there is one thing though, one might argue that “podcasts” or “podcasting” is not “social media” since it is a one way comunication channel

  13. DaleMHurley says:

Very cool video and smart way of presenting the idea

  14. tinflute1 says:

Great but…um. Not helpful if you are the big ice cream company. How does that company use social media? Same problem with most social media explanations. Simplistic, not actionable. But it’s fun and sounds great.
